Logo Change

After creating a draft of our back cover, I realised instead of the Island Records logo, we should include our own company's logo. So I added our TEK Records logo to the back cover:

Magazine Advert

We have also been thinking about how we want to incorporate our CD cover into our magazine advert.  First, we had the idea to simply copy and paste our CD cover onto the advert and then add the additional information, like this advert for Blink 182's album:

Then, we considered how we could make our advert more interesting, rather than simply pasting the CD cover onto into. I googled album music adverts and found that a lot of artists use a blown up version of their album cover for the whole of their magazine advert, with the additional information added on to it. These adverts are all examples of this:

We have decided that these magazine adverts look more interesting and we hope to create something along these lines for our advert.

CD Cover Insert

Today we started thinking of ideas for the insert for our CD cover. These are some of our ideas so far:

We plan to have two full pages of photos, including screen shots from our music video and then two pages of the lyrics of the song.

CD Cover

After creating the ideas for our CD cover using Photoshop, my group and I decided that we liked this one the most:

Once we had decided this, we took some photos of our "band members" that star in our music video, although only two of the three of them showed up. We still decided to take some photos of them and thought we could edit the other band member into the photos if that would look right. We took the photos in different places around our school as this is where our video is also set. We tried to make some of the photos obvious that they were taken in a school but also took some more ambiguous shots as well.

Here are some of the photos that we took using a Nikon DSLR:

Along with the pictures against the red wall, we also took some pictures just of the wall in case we wanted to use them as a background.

Using Photoshop I created a mock up of our CD cover (front and back) but as a group we have yet to decide how the insert will look.

First, I created a canvas to the dimensions of a CD case and then used one of the pictures of the red wall as a background. I then looked through the photos for the best one to use on the cover. In the end, I decided to cut out the figures from different images and paste them onto the red background so I could experiment with different sizes and positions. As there will eventually be 3 boys on the cover, I used a different image of one of the same boys just to see what the cover looked like with 3 figures. Also, to make the figures look like they are actually standing there, rather than having been cut out from a different picture, I added shadows to make it look like they are leaning against the wall. Next, I copied and pasted the text from a website called dafont.com. I cut out the different letters, and used different sizes and changed the opacity to create the effect shown above. I also gave the letters in the front shadows to make them stand out more against the background and the letters behind. I thought that the font fit well with the setting and the theme of our music video as it sort of looks like someone has written it on the wall, which happens a lot in schools. I then added the text in the left hand corner in the same way and added shadows.

After creating the front cover, I opened a canvas of the same dimensions for back cover. I decided that it would look better to use the same background from the front cover, so copied and pasted the image but also flipped it horizontally. I then found the Island Records on the Internet and added it to the back cover. Next I used the same fonts from the front cover, but in different ways to present the name of the song and the band name on the back cover. I also added a barcode that I made on an internet barcode generator.

These covers are not finished yet, but they have given us a good idea of our end product and we are very happy with how the covers look so far. We plan to follow the same theme for the insert of the CD package so that it shows continuity. We also plan to use the same theme for our magazine advert.
